Over the Easter long weekend I had a chance to head up to Jones Lake for some relaxation, kayaking and of course, drone flying. Jones Lake is up in BC, near hope. It is a little bit of a trek to get to. It turns out the lake was almost completely empty, there was only one other group of people at the lake. As you can see from the photos and video below, Jones Lake is quite a beautiful spot, especially with the backdrop of the snow covered mountains that overlook the lake.
One of my favorite shots and one of the shots that I have been practicing happens at 1:30 marker in the video. The shot starts directly overhead of the kayakers, the drone pulls back, flies up and the camera tilts up to reveal the snow capped mountains. This shot is a bit tricky to pull off as you need to be controlling these three movements in unison. If one starts moving faster, like the camera's tilt function, the shot just does not work. It took me three times to pull off this shot and at least get a take that I was happy with. This shot is easily becoming one of my favorite shots. Not only does it make the video look more cinematic, it also really communicates the scale and scope of where the kayakers are kayaking.
